Occupation: Drummer

“I got a gig! No, this one doesn’t pay either, but I got a gig!” That’s from the “Drummer” job card in Chez Geek card game from Steve Jackson Games. For those of you who have never played the game, I highly recommend it. It’s the game of being a slacker and collecting slack points. Here’re some sample cards from the game.

Why does this matter? Well, after announcing my intent to leave Microsoft, I was talking with [livejournal.com profile] pucspifo the other night and he said I should go after and pursue doing my photography work, since I have the camera, hardware, and software to make it all mesh together. So, I went back through my portfolio, tweaked my website for my photographic work, and e-mailed people I had worked with in the past, asking for link from them on their web site and if they had any upcoming projects we could work on together.

I got one bite back from those e-mails from the folks at Poke It With A Stick Productions, whom I worked for on Evil: In The Loaming, and they’re getting ready for pre-production on their next project and that they want to work with me again!

I also e-mailed a number of people doing casting calls on the Actors North West call board and went through their list of productions that are in the casting phase of production and enquired if they had a production photographer yet or not. If you’re wanting to get involved in acting for theater, film, tv, etc, or you’re looking for talent (actors) and crew, this an excellent resource. One of the e-mails has begun panning out and hopefully we’ll have a deal penned in a week or two.

I’ve heard the statement that Seattle has a large, independent film community and that seems to very much be the case. However, most of those independent films also have no budget. The plan for now with this venture is to get more work under my belt so that I have broader set of images in my portfolio.

We’ll see what happens.
