To all my pagan friends, I hope your Yule is a blessed one.

To everyone else, when the sun rises tomorrow, the days will get longer and longer. Happy Winter Solstice!

Blessed Mabon! May the fruits of your harvest be many!

On Saturday, July 4th, the Clark Zoo will be hosting our annual 4th get together. We live in unincorporated King County where it is legal to set off fireworks.

If you want to come, we're asking you bring a dish of food to feed 4 to 5 people and your fireworks to shoot off.

If you're interested in showing up, send me a message!

When I look back over the last eleven years, I see a day where I was I was very happy, surrounded by friends and family. Eleven years ago we were handfasted on a gorgeous spring day in my parents backyard. Eleven years ago we said yes to the commitments before us and we force fed cake to each other--I remember that white cake can burn when it gets too far up the nose--in the most loving fashion. Eleven years ago it was a day of happiness and joy, a day I relive with you each and every day I am with you. You are my fire, my passion, and you complete me and fill in my holes for the last eleven years. I am looking forward to next eleven years before us.

Happy anniversary, dear.

Love,
me

This morning is Beltane, the last of the spring festivals.

Enjoy the day!

I am busy repacking everything and getting ready to check. I will probably be dropping off the car earlier than the 1:40pm designated time, but I'll live. Once I get to the airport, I'll just find someplace comfortable to sit down write up last night and make a few other posts as well. :)

Aside from a few hiccups, last night was just amazing! Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] lunargypsie for the awesome Yule present! I love you very, very much!

My first flight is Alaska Airlines 4213 from LAX to SJC 3:40pm to 5:00pm and then Alaska Airlines 331 from SJC to SEA from 7:50pm to 10:09pm.

I am very tired so I do not thing I will be up to greet the sun in less than four hours. *pout*

However, to all of my pagan friends who read my journal: Have a very Blessed Yule!

To all of my non-pagan friends, may the returning light of the solstice warm your hearts and dreams as we step out of the dark half of the year.

Just wanted to take the time to wish those pagan types on my friends list a Blessed Mabon and a happy Fall Equinox to everyone else!

[livejournal.com profile] gypsiequeen and I celebrate 10 years of marriage together today. Yep, this day back in '98 in a wonderous little handfasting ceremony permformed by the priestess of my old coven.

I love you and thank you for being in my life, dear. :)

We are half way between the equinox and the summer solstice! It is the time of the good fires and the last of the fertility festivals. May the coming months bring you the fertility you seek in your endeavors.

Bright blessings to everyone!

As I write this, it is still dark outside and the sun has yet to crest the eastern horizon, but the promise of longer days is there. It's as if the light has been flipped on.

The longest night is almost over and I am here to greet the sun.

What was the first song to pop into my head this morning? "Return To Me Beloved" by Anne Hill from Circle Round and Sing.

I've been searching through the darkness
   Return to me beloved
For the night's gone on too long
   Return to me my love
I won't rest until I've found you
   Return to me beloved
And you bring me back the dawn
   Return to me my love

I've been searching through the darkness
   Return to me beloved
For the night's gone on too long
   Return to me my love
I won't rest until I've found you
   Return to me beloved
And you bring me back the dawn
   Return to me my love

I've been searching through the darkness
   Return to me beloved
For the night's gone on too long
   Return to me my love
I won't rest until I've found you
   Return to me beloved
And you bring me back the dawn
   Return to me my love

Last night ended way too early...in the morning. I finally shuffled off to be around 4am after enjoying Sammy's milk shakes. There was some alchohol in them, though not a lot, and the five of us, [livejournal.com profile] sylvan, Sammy, [livejournal.com profile] dreamer685, and Justin just stayed up late chatting about all sorts of things.

I've been up for a couple of hours now, as 8am is sleeping in for me.

This morning's breakfast was 3 toasted slices of [livejournal.com profile] urbanwolfie's beer bread with [livejournal.com profile] gypsiequeen's home made butter.

...and a good time was had by all and many people showed, though I lost count. It was 27 people, 23 of which were here for food, when all was said and done. A lot of food was prepared and there are left overs.

One does not have to look that far to see the source of this decline: shopping mall based trick-or-treating. You may be asking yourself what in the Wild World of Sports1 I am talking about, so allow me to enlighten you.

First, allow me to get my walker and take out my teeth because I'm about to use a phrase that will make me sound old or incredibly silly in the least. When I was the age to be trick-or-treating, there were some base protocols that had to be followed. If I broke them once, I was warned. If I broke them twice, we went home. I hope that you are familiar with these rules because that will restore my faith in humanity. Okay, maybe not, but the sentiment is still there.

The first rule of trick-or-treating is you never talk about trick-or-treating was never go to a house without the porch light on. If the light is off, that means they have nothing to give. It's also a much safer practice in the grand scheme of things. I don't think I saw one group of kids, with or without parents, following this practice. [livejournal.com profile] gypsiequeen not only had the porch light off, but also blew out the pumpkins, and there were still people knocking on the door. Is it me or does anyone else think that it is a potentially bad idea to send your kids up to the door of house that is dark while you stand at the foot of the driveway waiting?

The second rule was one born out of the politeness; you do not bum-rush the door while other kids are in front of you still getting their candy. This is something I saw less often than the porch light issues, but it still bugs me. Never mind the fact that the parents do not do anything about it.

Clearly the culprit in all of this is that for a while, parents took their kids to the mall to go trick-or-treating rather than the neighborhood. In our neighborhood, this was the first year that we saw a good number of trick-or-treaters out and about. Hopefully, through our subtle education program—namely [livejournal.com profile] gypsiequeen and I talking loudly to our children about the proper rules of engagement or shooting to the other parents about why our porch light is out—that some forward progress towards stopping this decline can be made.

Why it's Halloween! And to all my of my friends, pagan or not, I wish you a happy and blessed Samhain!

May your wishes for this new year be granted.

For those of you who are interested in the background of the holiday, here is an excellent starting point.

The Boy was supposed to be born around Beltane, but he decided to go transverse breach on us so the labor had to be stopped, my ex wife needed to be turned up side down, and a manual aversion took place. It would take the Boy three weeks to work back up to coming out.

May the year be as properous and fertile as the warmth in our hearts!
