Apparently, I have Windows SharePoint Services installed on my desktop machine and therefore, Windows Server 2008 is refusing to do an upgrade. I don't recall ever installing it and I cetainly can't seem to find a way to uninstall it. Hell, I can't even find a trace that it's there; just this message:
You must make the following changes before upgrading Windows

Uninstall the following programs:
Windows SharePoint Services
Helpful, ain't it?

I should be in bed. I will head that way now, rather than beating myself into unconsciousness. *sigh*

Aha!

It would appear that Windows SharePoint Services snuck on my system via the Office 2003 install. Well, I have removed that component. Now we'll see if the install happens...

For what ever fucking reason, I cannot get rid of Windows SharePoint Services and 2008 will not upgrade with it in place. I found a KB article that talked about that if Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 installed it would work. Well, I got a different message after I installed 3.0, that it would be disabled until after I applied some fix. Oh, and I still had to uninstall Windows SharePoint Services.

What does this mean for me? Means I'm going to run RegMon and FileMon the next time it does its compatibility check and see if I can figure out what it's looking for.

*sigh* And this is why people hate upgrading their operating system. I need to get out the door now. See you all tonight.
