Last week I got to visit the Steampunk World's Fair, a festival that celebrates steampunk in all of its forms and I had a grand time.

Sadly, a lot of steampunk tends to be brown, as if they were part of a sepia tone photo or something. Sometimes they go for a full color spread and those are just gorgeous.

Good evening, my lovelies!

Now that Bullets and Dames has been put to bed--and it was a fabulous show if you missed it--it is now time to start working on July's show, Gears, Pasties, and Other Curios: A Steampunk Cabaret. The show is on July 21st at the Rendezvous Jewelbox Theater.

As some of you may know I'm performing at the Steampunk World's Fair in just under a month and I am both excited and scared out of my mind. Not only is this my first time performing out state but it will be my first time out on the east coast. I'll be leaving on a plane for New Jersey on May 16th and will most likely be landing on 16th with only minutes to go.

Tonight they posted my blurb and photo and then plugged me in their Facebook group.

Yes, this is really happening!!

Of course, I'll get home late Sunday night on the 20th and then turn around and drive down to Portland, OR, to perform for Savoir Faire on the 31st and then on to Oakland, CA, for First Friday Follies at the Stork Club and will be in the Bay Area through Saturday, June 2nd and driving back to Seattle on the 3rd.

This is the most epic spring ever for me!! Don't mind me while I sit here and be excited.

Earlier today, I ask this question on my Twitter account:
Help me twitterverse! I need some #steampunk innuendos, terms of endearment, lustful double entendres. My brain's frozen and needs a jump...
Out of that request came a dozen or so suggestions that sounded like bad pick up lines. Not that I'm complaining, it did what I wanted and that jump start the creative process in my head. ;)

From those came these...
  • Lighting Your Filament
  • Greasing Your Gears
  • Pumping Your Bellows
  • Cranking Your Drive Train
  • Driving Your Gears
  • Working Your Crank Case
  • Moving the Aether
  • Steamy Relations
  • Bawdy Experiments
But I want to know, how much more can I get out these? Do you have any suggestions?

In the end, I need 4 terms to corresponde to some sponsorship levels that I'm putting together for my burlesque site. (Did I mention I'm doing a spring tour? I'm really excited about that!!)

Good morning, my lovelies!

I wanted to update you with a little performance I'm doing with an amazing and admirable group ladies at SteamCon III this weekend. What is SteamCon? Simply it is a convention geared for purveyors of all thing steampunk and The Timeless Trollop of the Gas Light District is nothing if not a steampunk at her core.

On Satruday, in the Regency Ballrooms E, F, and G, at the Bellevue Hyatt Regency, I will be joining my fellow students of ucanto Belly Dance for some American Tribal Style belly dance with a steampunk flair at 1pm. A membership for the convention is required to watch this show. The day rate is only $25 for a solid day of steampunk excitement and flair if you don't have a membership already. Friday lasts from nine in the morning until two the next morning and the full weekend membership covering Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is but a scant $55. Don't believe me that such wonders abound? Take a look at the convention schedule and see for yourself.

I hope to see you there even though there will be no burlesque in this show. I can assure you though that the music will be grand and the dancing fun.

Won't you join me, and my sisters in traveling entertainment, for a past that never was?

I am really excited for this next show, The Cog Days of Summer, on the 11th of June!

Rusty L'Orange, our master of ceremonies, will guide you through the gas light streets and cobblestone back allies to show you the finest entertainment this side of Yessler's Wall. He'll show wind up dolls and mad scientists seeking to cure the ills of hysteria. Perhaps he will even introduce you to a time traveler and procurer of scientific supplies, though she may be a touch shady in her dealings.

This evening of fine entertainment for ladies and gents, scoundrels and scientists includes performances that will delight and amaze!

  • Katana
  • La Petite Mort
  • Chesty LaRue
  • Deseo Carmin
  • Dahlia Ste. Cyr
  • Scarlett O'Hairdye
  • Miss Violet DeVille
  • Beatrice Belladonna

Are you going to follow Mr. L'Orange's lead? He'll keep you safe from the ruffians who walk the cobble streets. Free range automatons and clanks are another story entirely. ;)

Last October, I shot photos of the SteamCon Tea and Couture Fashion Show. I had a lot of fun taking the photos. You can view all of the photos here.

A couple of weeks ago, I was approached by the coordinator of the SteamCon 2 fashion show asking if I'd be interested in doing it all over again. It would be an understated to say I agreed to do it again. No, this year, I have ideas on how to improve the lighting and get even better shots than some of the awesome ones below. To celebrate this occassion, here are some photo's from last year's fasion show, Tea and Couture.

Raffle sales were one of many fundraising aspects to the Seattle Steampunk Film Festival. On May 8th, 2010, a large collection of steampunks descended on the Museum Of History And Industry (MOHAI) in Seattle, Washington, with the sole purpose of raising funds to help fix the Carrols Clock. On December 26th, 2009, vandals stole the clock's inner workings and brass pendulum. Initial estimates placed the repair work for the 97 year old clock at $10,000.

Ericka sent an e-mail to the Seattle Steamrats Google Group detailing the results of these efforts:[more]

I'm overwhelmed by the success of this Saturday's fund raisers, Steampunk University and the Seattle Steampunk Film Festival.  It all started on *this* discussion group with the first post about the clockwork theft back in late Dec.  And we all stepped up as a community to make this fund raiser happen.

I am so grateful to our big donors: Steamcon, Studio Foglio, Renovation SciFi Convention, and Steambaby.  But I'm also blown away at the number of smaller donations that poured out from so many!  We never imaged we'd have so many goodies for our silent auction  It really touched my heart to see how people just stepped up to chip in (and dress up for a party!)  And to all of the volunteers.  So many people helping out on so many levels.  And we did it!  We raised enough to restore the clock!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Oh, and the folks at MOHAI love you too!  The exact subject line of the email we got this morning was "THANK YOU!!!!! I heart Steampunk!"

from MOHAI's fund raising coordinator.  I think we've left a mark on the museum in more ways than one.  (They know carry Boneshaker in their gift shop.)

I just registered myself, [livejournal.com profile] lunargypsie, the Boy, and the Girly Girl for SteamCon this fall and have our hotel reservations in hand.

Who else is going? :)

I've had this idea brewing in my head for about a month or so, a holster style camera bag. The idea came to while photographing the last Abney Park show here in Seattle on 2/6. The goal, in the end, is to create a belt that will hold my camera, two lens, a hot seat flash, and assorted equipment.

So, I am looking for a base gun holster patter, something with an old west feel and I will modify it from there.

Thanks for any help!

Shiny!

Your result for The Steampunk Style Test...

The Ragamuffin

25% Elegant, 38% Technological, 30% Historical, 44% Adventurous and 63% Playful!

You are the Ragamuffin, the embodiment of steampunk playfulness. Chances are, you approach the genre from a much more casual and lighthearted standpoint than most other fans. To you, there is always an element of play inherent in the genre, and you may very well enjoy fashion as much for the opportunity to dress up as for the style itself. You probably wear goggles as an accessory, and rarely as actual eye-protection. Your outfits are likely to incorporate a lot of brown or cream, and combine large boots, Victorian corsets or vests, aviator caps or bowler hats, and gypsy skirts or slacks, simply because you like them all.

After much fighting and digging to come up with a steampunk character idea, she has finally popped into my head. Cailin Lefévre, the daughter of a French machinist and an English woman who has a really interesting job that I can't quite come up with at the moment. *head desk*

Anyway, I am looking for pronunciation help with the last name from either native French speakers or fluent French speakers. Ideally, if I can get a recording I can practice from, that would be superb.

Thanks!

Your result for The Steampunk Style Test...

The Explorer

21% Elegant, 31% Technological, 40% Historical, 56% Adventurous and 54% Playful!

You are the Explorer, the embodiment of steampunk’s adventuring spirit. For you, clothing should be rugged and reliable, and just as functional as it is attractive. You probably prefer khaki or leather, and your accessories are as likely to include weapons as technological gizmos. You probably wear boots and gloves, and maybe a pith helmet. Most of what you wear is functional, and if you happen to wear goggles people had better believe that you use them. In addition to Victorian exploration gear, your outfit probably includes little knickknacks from your various travels. Above all, you are a charming blend of rugged Victorian daring and exotic curiosity.
