CopyrightWhen June comes to call, some people like to look back at the first half of the year and see where they came from as they plot the way forward through the rest of the year. We’re going to spend an evening looking at the roots of the neo burlesque movement through the lens of classic burlesque! Taxes this year are due on Monday, April 15th. We know a lot of you may be working late the weekend before to get them all done and in on time. We appreciate that. So after you’ve finished carrying the one and referencing table A on document 1086, we think you should reward yourself with a little shimmy, some bump and grind, and some of Seattle’s amazing burlesque performers. We’ll even start later for you. On Saturday, April 13th, we'll be staying late for Sunday's Early Edition of the Belltown Burlesque Revue. Some may call it a late show, starting at 11:00 pm and doors opening at 10:30 pm, we consider this the extra early Sunday Morning Edition. Either way, it'll be an amazing way to enter into the new week.

CopyrightAs the reality storm comes to a head seek refuge at Worlds' End and stay for the stories

Join us for an extravaganza of clever and sassy homage to the many worlds of Neil Gaiman, a prolific writer with notable works spanning comic books, novels, children's books and stories, television series, and film. With genres ranging from fantasy to science fiction and the occasional epic children's tale, the stories you'll see are quite diverse.

The tales involve a goddess, Beldam and her doll, the heart of a blue box, a young woman who is far older than she appears, an enslaved faerie, the very essence of dreams personified, and more.

CopyrightThe month of March is a month with a reputation: It comes in like a lamb and goes out like a multi-headed beast that wants to devour the lamb, the children, and that little old lady who lives down the block because she can't out run it. Oh, it also likes to show off its sexy self.

Okay, maybe it's not quite like that but we're certainly bringing the sexy beasts to Belltown on March 9th.

CopyrightOn July 30th, my oldest niece, Christy, was driving on U.S. Highway 287 just north of the Colorado-Wyoming border where she hit a patch of wet road after a summer storm. Her Dodge Neon hydroplaned and crossed into oncoming traffic, sliding into a semi. Her injuries were severe enough that she was air lifted to Denver Health for treatment in Colorado.

She is out of the ICU now and in rehabilitation for her severe brain injuries. She still has a long way to go.

Christy wanted to come to Seattle and explore the independent music scene and this thing called burlesque that her crazy aunt did.

"Nerds, like us, are allowed to be unironically enthusiastic about stuff. Nerds are allowed to love stuff, like, jump-up-and-down-and-strip-off-your-clothes-can't-control-yourself love it. When people call people nerds, mostly what they're saying is 'You like stuff.' Which is not a good insult at all. Like, 'You are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness.'"

- John Green said something like this. Sort of. We think the boobies are an added bonus.

Epic. That's really all we can say to describe this evening of nerdy burlesque by some of the nerdiest performers around. Fantasy action and video games, Muppets and classic science fiction movies are just the tip of the iceberg of the nerdy topics that we have up our collective gloves.

Leading us in this romp is one of our favorite nerds, Violet Wilde. She'll be leading this team of explorers, celebrants, and geeks, in all things nerdy.

In fact, the evening is so epic we're doing twice the nerdiness over two days! First on Saturday, September 22nd, where doors open at 6:30 pm and the show is at 7:00! Then, then on Sunday, September 23rd, is an encore performance on at 6:30 pm and the doors open at 6:00 pm!

But wait, there's more! The truly fantastic gaming store Card Kingdom is joining the fun and they've assembled a prize package that only be described as amazeballs and we'll be giving one away each night as a part of our raffle. Surely, you're not going to want to miss out on this!

My world is so big with friends and family on both coasts and in the middle, friends who have moved off to other country on other continents. It is a big, big world. Then something amazing happens: We are reminded just how small and interconnected it is.

Last week, I saw a woman dance who I had not seen in several years but I had seen her name once to twice a week while I working for Katrina at Skin Deep. Sadly, I didn't even recognize her at first it was only after looking at the photos that the Girly Girl took at the hafla.

On Monday, we had the first round of call backs for a project [livejournal.com profile] jennifer_brozek and I are working on. I was giving direction to one of the models and I asked her if she had ever belly danced or seen a belly dancer perform and demonstrated some simple popping and locking for in terms of movement. She had taken classes in belly dancing and recognized me from my time at Skin Deep when she and her mother went there.

It humbles and invigorates me when these happen.

As some of you know, I'm a big old nerd and love my role playing games, especially my live action role playing games. One group, Emerald Chronicles (www.emeraldchronicles.com), that I play my live action roleplaying games with meets on a weekly basis. In the summer we play on the UW campus near Red Square and during the wet season we play at the Boys & Girls Club of Wallingford.

Where am I going with this?

Well, as a part of our rental agreement, we design, build, and run their haunted house. In exchange for our hard work, we get really cheap rent throughout the winter months. Seriously, who better to run a haunted house than a group of adults who pretend to be vampires, werewolves, reality bending mages, and fairies once a week? Yeah, we couldn't think of anyone better either.

The haunted house serves two purposes for the B&GC: First is to help raise money and strengthen their bond with the local community. We like to think that we excel on both counts. ;)

This year's theme is a Twisted Carnival and we're looking for a number of performers who would love to embrace the carnival atmosphere and help entertain people who are in line. Tribal belly dancers, side show performers, carnies. I think you get the idea where are going. This is an all ages kind of show in the community.

It's a one night run on Saturday, the 29th of about 3 to 4 hours in length. This is as much about the dance as it is about the atmosphere. In end, we should be having fun and entertaining people. This should be a low stress gig.

Specifics about the event:
When: Boys & Girls Club of Wallingford, 1310 N. 45h St., Seattle
Start: 6pm
Length: 3 hours (historicly this has been extended for an hour due to demand)
Call Time: 5pm
This is an unpaid event.

I will most likely not be dancing myself as I'm already tapped to do things like makeup effects and probably acting or in some backstage role pulling strings. ;)

If you're interested or would like more information, feel free to send me a message or an e-mail me at amber@clarkzoo.org. We would like to have the performers locked down by Monday, 10/24, so we can plan out the evening appropriately.

Thank you for your time and I hope you can help us make an incredible evening for the local community.

Good morning, my lovelies!

I wanted to update you with a little performance I'm doing with an amazing and admirable group ladies at SteamCon III this weekend. What is SteamCon? Simply it is a convention geared for purveyors of all thing steampunk and The Timeless Trollop of the Gas Light District is nothing if not a steampunk at her core.

On Satruday, in the Regency Ballrooms E, F, and G, at the Bellevue Hyatt Regency, I will be joining my fellow students of ucanto Belly Dance for some American Tribal Style belly dance with a steampunk flair at 1pm. A membership for the convention is required to watch this show. The day rate is only $25 for a solid day of steampunk excitement and flair if you don't have a membership already. Friday lasts from nine in the morning until two the next morning and the full weekend membership covering Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is but a scant $55. Don't believe me that such wonders abound? Take a look at the convention schedule and see for yourself.

I hope to see you there even though there will be no burlesque in this show. I can assure you though that the music will be grand and the dancing fun.

Won't you join me, and my sisters in traveling entertainment, for a past that never was?
