Several years ago, Ben Vaughan and I ran a Victorian steampunk Vampire LARP that was modeled geared for high-adventure fun and getting rid of the angst that so often annoys me with Vampire: The Masquerade games. We completely took apart the World of Darkness and rebuilt it. Certain things were a mystery, like diablerie for example or older kindred. Age wasn't something kindred talked about and knowing vampires older than 200 years was a rare thing indeed. There were no Sabbat, no werewolves. Changelings were the things of legend, though many players suspected that two nasty men, Mr. York and Mr. Wellington, may have been. Certainly they were men who operated under their own rules.
The Camarilla was built to resemble the British bureaucracy with its byzantine forms and departments. Transfers were something that happened to kindred who were unruly and a common euphemism was to be "transferred to Istanbul". Some kindred were curious why Tariq never reported to Istanbul's Prince, others knew better than to ask. Assamites and the Lasombra were good standing members of the Camarilla.
The Malkavians, trouble makes to the end, had been summarily kicked out, frequently blamed for the fall of Paris to the Independence Movement. Even the court of London's darling, Mina Harker couldn't make all kindred accept the Children of the Moon. The Malkavians were even blamed for the rise of the Sparks, mortals with the mad genius for science and creation.
Some say that one such spark managed to walk into a gathering of kindred, pretending to be one of them with a device that manipulated his psycho-magnetic aura so he appeared dead. What's worse is that they say he got away with information that could endanger vampires the world over. Of course, the spark that people speak in hushed voices about the Engineer.
The Independence Movement sought to usurp the Camarilla's presence in the Americas and Indonesia. Still, the Followers of Set sought power for their own and controlled much of the Dark Continent through seeking out rumored ancients to consume their vitae.
The rumor of one shot came back around to me today when Eric gave me a call to say hi. Well, and to wax lovingly on the game that was and follow up on a rumor he had heard.
So who would be interested in one shot game set in the world of "Shadows of a Crimson Dawn"?
