fullcontactmuse: (The Server Is Down)
I'm configuring a new machine and Vista did not have native drivers for the RAID controller on the motherboard. Needless to say, it was the "Browse" dialog was not intuitive nor helpful. Of course, it didn't help matters much that the drivers were under a folder titled "Other". I eventually took the CD over to another machine and went looking for all of the INF files for ones that looked like they might be what I'm looking for.

The array is now working.

"Mother puss-bucket." - Dr. Peter Venkman

[livejournal.com profile] gypsiequeen's harddrive failed today. Looks like a big, bad chunk of blocks in the middle of some important Windows files. Machine won't even successfully boot in safe mode without a bug-check--what a Blue Screen Of Death is actually called--and this caused lots of consternation. It would appear that dropping a drive that has been previously set up as a dynamic disk in another system without previously wiping it first is something of a no-no. Well, at least as far as Windows Vista setup is concerned anyway.

I'll be putting that theory to the test in the morning after file copies on this box have come to an end.

I have the new Norwescon business office laptop. I did create a recovery disc to restore the factory image to Vista if we want to go down that path. I am formatting the drive and loading Windows XP Pro SP2 on the laptop.

Yes, things are moving along at a good pace. And while the drive is formatting, all 150gb of disk, I am going to be outside taking some pictures of the moon.

Well, right now it's Vist 1, Me 0. Why can I not edit a stupid, fucking file that I have Full Control permissions on and I'm the fucking file owner of!?
