I say basic because there will be a couple of variations based on the filters and this is of the "no filter" variety.

[livejournal.com profile] sylvan and I went to RustyCon 25 over the weekend and I had a very enjoyable time. I affectionately refer to Rusty as my "VacationCon" because I don't work it. It's a much smaller con with its 300-400 members than Norwescon, which was roughly 3000 people last year. Unfortunately, I missed the cut off to show in the artshow. I need to correct that next year.

It seems like [livejournal.com profile] saphyre_blue, acting bid chair for WorldCon in Seattle, 2011, is beginning to get momentum under her feet. The vote for 2011 is not until WorldCon 2009. The theme for next WorldCon has been set: "Return to the Emerald City". The only problem is that it's missing a crucial component, the Steam Punk element. That's right, the theme is steam punk oriented and should be pretty cool.

Again, I had a lot of fun at the small can and will likely do it again. :)

Rusty wasmuch smaller than I remember it being several years ago. Granted, all I saw was the dealers room and the art show on Sunday morning...

Yes, it was nice and small and that's something I miss from my time in Colorado. So it was a welcome change. :)

I was born, raised, and lived in and around the Denver area until we moved to Washington in '98. I went to a good number of StarCons and StarFests, a few of the horror cons. Mile High Con was one of my favorites. And I used to help run Anaconism conventions.

Huh. Very likely we ran into each other there without even knowing it, then. I worked with Brittanicon and went to Starcon and Starfest a lot (helped with set up and tear down for the video room as well as having my game (Project: Devolution) running at a couple of them.

Heh. Quite possibly. My brother used to run the model show for StarCon and StarFest, though I don't know if he still does. So yeah, we probably crossed paths more than once. :)

Of course the other thing the bid lacks is competent people to run it and the con should, heaven (or anyone else) forbid, they win the vote.

You seem to have strong opinions about this. Did you think that Cascadia Con didn't go so well? I missedd that one, so I have no personal experience with it.

Me, strong opinions? Never ;)

Cascadia was not a disaster, but it was not great. And it certainly should a lack of attention to detail that would be required for a convention the size of a worldcon.
